September 2010 marks the beginning
of the Society’s 40th year since its inaugural meeting in the old
school on Bearsted Green in 1970. We are planning some special concerts to
celebrate this birthday year including collaborations with two other choirs,
Chorale des 2 Caps from Wissant, France and the Choir of Upchurch,
Kent.
The Society has grown from an
initial 20 Bearsted residents to around 60 enthusiastic members, most of whom
now live in Maidstone and nearby towns and
villages. The Society has recently been awarded Registered Charity status. As a Choral Society BCS sings a wide range of music – Secular and
religious, light opera, long and short pieces and new members are always warmly
welcomed in all four voice sections.
